Enrichment Programme at Hopewell School

Enrichment Programme at Hopewell School

In addition to following the National Curriculum, Hopewell School offers a comprehensive Enrichment Programme to enhance pupils’ learning opportunities and help them develop emotionally and socially. This programme allows pupils to develop their interpersonal skills and self-image, improve social skills, and build friendships. The Enrichment Programme extends pupils’ learning experiences into the community, exposing them to experiences they might not ordinarily encounter outside of school.

Box-Up Gym

Physical health and fitness are a priority at Hopewell School. We aim to introduce pupils to various sports so they can find at least one they enjoy and continue to participate in throughout their lives. Our local boxing organisation, Box-Up Crime, offers pupils the opportunity to train in one of their local gyms. Pupils participate in a programme that supports their mental wellbeing, physical fitness, and stamina. They learn strategies to manage self-control and emotions, becoming more resilient. The benefits of working out and boxing are endless. The coaches also teach pupils determination, courage, and perseverance, which are some of our school values.

Diverse Voices

Self-confidence and self-expression are essential life skills that we want our pupils to develop during their time at Hopewell School. Our Drama lessons are run by an external company called Diverse Voices. Pupils participate in workshops to build their confidence, self-expression, and creativity using drama and role play. The objectives are to engage pupils who have limited access to the arts and use Performing Arts as a vehicle to explore issues and topics relevant to our pupils.

Extra-Curricular Activities

On Friday morning, pupils are given the opportunity to attend an activity of their choice. This rewards pupils for their hard work throughout the week and offers the opportunity to mix with peers from other year groups and explore a range of interests. The extra-curricular activities offered are an integral part of the school ethos. They enhance personal development, self-image, improve social skills, and build friendships. Extra-curricular sessions extend pupils' learning experiences both in the school and the wider community. All pupils are encouraged to take part in activities, and staff participate alongside pupils to model the school values of perseverance, respect, and determination.

Swimming

We want our pupils to develop healthy habits and understand that consistent exercise supports their physical and mental development. Our message to pupils is that exercise is fun, and one way to incorporate exercise into their lives is by learning how to swim. The coaching sessions take place in our local swimming pool and are taught by a Swimming Coach. The coach has designed the programme with the needs of our pupils in mind, creating opportunities for pupils to learn how to get in and out of the pool safely, control breathing, float and tread water, and swim with forward motion. Swimming is available to pupils from Key Stage 2 (KS2) to Key Stage 3 (KS3).

Lambourne End Farm

Lambourne End Farm provides an educational farm experience that allows pupils to connect with nature, learn about sustainable agriculture, and develop a deeper appreciation for the environment.

Grange Waters Outdoor Educational Centre

Grange Waters Outdoor Educational Centre offers pupils the chance to engage in outdoor adventure programmes, fostering teamwork, resilience, and a love for the outdoors.
